A Strong Finish to 2025: Every SolversMind FLL Team Earns an Award

SolversMind ended 2025 on an incredible note as Unknown Solvers and Solvers of Infinity both earned awards at their final FIRST LEGO League regional tournament. Their achievements completed a remarkable UNEARTHED season in which all five SolversMind FLL teams received regional awards and four advanced to the Ontario Provincial Championship.

FIRST LEGO League UNEARTHED awards won by SolversMind teams during the 2025 season

Why was this a strong finish to 2025 for SolversMind?

SolversMind closed 2025 with a remarkable FIRST LEGO League result as Unknown Solvers and Solvers of Infinity both earned awards at an Ontario regional qualifying tournament. Unknown Solvers received the Robot Performance Award, 2nd Place, and advanced to the 2026 Ontario Provincial Championship, while Solvers of Infinity earned the Robot Design Award, 2nd Place. These results completed an exceptional regional season in which all five SolversMind FLL teams earned awards and four advanced to Provincials. More importantly, the milestone reflected SolversMind’s philosophy of combining rigorous robotics training with meaningful student ownership. As one of Ontario’s leading FIRST robotics training facilities, SolversMind prepares students to design, build, code, test, research, present, and lead their own work. Mentored by Dahai Zhang, Solvers of X & Y, and FRC Team 10015 Bubbles, the younger students gained stronger technical skills, greater confidence, and a deeper commitment to carrying the values of FIRST forward.

What did Unknown Solvers achieve?

FLL Team 52736 Unknown Solvers earned the Robot Performance Award, 2nd Place, demonstrating the effectiveness of the team’s robot strategy, programming, attachments, testing, and match preparation.

The result also qualified Unknown Solvers for the 2026 FIRST LEGO League Ontario Provincial Championship.

Advancement required more than a strong score on the competition table. Throughout the season, students needed to balance robot performance with their engineering process, Innovation Project, communication, teamwork, and Core Values.

The students responded by taking ownership of their work. They designed and refined attachments, programmed autonomous missions, tested different strategies, studied inconsistencies, and continued improving their performance throughout the season.

Their provincial qualification represented an important milestone for a team that continued to grow in both technical capability and confidence.

Why was Solvers of Infinity’s Robot Design Award meaningful?

Solvers of Infinity earned the Robot Design Award, 2nd Place, an impressive achievement for one of SolversMind’s younger developing teams.

The award reflected the students’ ability to design a purposeful robot, explain their engineering decisions, and show how their mechanisms and programs supported a clear competition strategy. For young students, robot design involves far more than connecting LEGO pieces. They must learn how to identify mission priorities, organize mechanisms within limited space, build simple and reliable attachments, write and refine autonomous programs, test for repeatability, and communicate their engineering process clearly to judges.

Through SolversMind’s rigorous, hands-on training, younger students are encouraged to develop both technical skills and the confidence to use them independently. They learn how to solve problems, work as a team, speak with clarity, respond to setbacks, and improve their own ideas.

This reflects a core belief behind our program — "More Than Robots": “We do not use kids to build robots. We use robots to build kids.”

The recognition showed how quickly the students had grown as builders, programmers, problem-solvers, communicators, and presenters. Most importantly, they experienced what can happen when young people are trusted to experiment, make mistakes, rebuild, and take ownership of their learning.

What did all five SolversMind FLL teams achieve?

The final tournament completed an extraordinary regional season for the SolversMind FIRST LEGO League program.

Solvers of X & Y

  • Champion’s Award, 1st Place

  • Advanced to the Ontario Provincial Championship

The team retained its regional championship title and continued its journey toward becoming Ontario Champion for the second consecutive season.

Chrono Solvers

  • Champion’s Award, 2nd Place

  • Robot Performance Award, 1st Place

  • Advanced to the Ontario Provincial Championship

Future Solvers

  • Core Values Award, 1st Place

  • Advanced to the Ontario Provincial Championship

Unknown Solvers

  • Robot Design Award, 2nd Place

By the end of 2025, all five SolversMind FLL teams had earned at least one award, and four of the five had advanced to the Ontario Provincial Championship.

How did collaborative learning strengthen the teams?

This achievement was not created by five teams working separately.

At SolversMind, students learn in a collaborative environment where experienced members share ideas, demonstrate techniques, answer questions, and encourage younger teams. Each team maintains ownership of its own robot, project, and presentation, but students grow faster when knowledge is passed between generations.

Older students help younger members understand concepts such as attachment design, mission planning, programming, testing, documentation, and presentation. Younger students bring new ideas, energy, and questions that challenge everyone to think differently.

Mentored by Renee Zhang, Ryan Zhang and their team fellows, Unknown Solvers and Solvers of Infinity demonstrated how student mentorship can strengthen an entire program.

The goal is not to reproduce one successful team. It is to create an environment where every team can develop its own identity, solve problems independently, and grow with the support of a larger learning community.

Why do these results represent more than trophies?

Awards provide meaningful recognition, but they are not the most important outcome of a FIRST LEGO League season.

At SolversMind, student learning always comes first. Our FIRST training ecosystem supports students at every stage, from younger FLL participants developing foundational skills in building, coding, teamwork, and presentation, to experienced students mentoring others and progressing into FTC and FRC.

Behind every trophy are months of designing, programming, testing, researching, presenting, disagreeing, rebuilding, and learning. Students develop patience when a robot behaves unpredictably, confidence when they present to judges, and responsibility when their teammates depend on them.

They also learn that meaningful success is rarely created by one person. Some students grow into strong programmers or builders. Others excel in research, documentation, public speaking, organization, leadership, or team support. FIRST LEGO League gives these different strengths a place to develop together.

SolversMind provides rigorous technical training, experienced mentorship, and meaningful competition opportunities while ensuring that students remain responsible for the work. This student-first approach has produced a historic record of achievement, including awards for every SolversMind FLL team, repeated provincial qualifications, back-to-back Ontario Champion’s Awards, and consecutive appearances on the FIRST World Championship stage.

These results reinforce SolversMind’s position as a leading FIRST robotics training organization in Ontario and leave no doubt that it offers one of the strongest FIRST robotics programs and training facilities in Aurora and across York Region. More importantly, they prove that sustained success is possible when high-quality training is combined with student ownership, mentorship, and a long-term pathway from FLL to FTC and FRC.

That is why this season meant so much to us.

The trophies showed that the teams were moving in the right direction. The students’ growth, confidence, and willingness to support one another showed why the journey truly mattered.

We are proud of every team, every student, every mentor, and every moment of learning behind these achievements.

What an incredible way to finish 2025, and what a strong foundation for the next chapter of the UNEARTHED season.
